A Kansas Shout-Out

Ken (my saint-like husband; one “friend” pointed out to me that I certainly married up, and he’s right) and I went to see “Knight and Day” recently. The movie itself isn’t really blog-worthy, except for this: It made several mentions of Kansas without ONCE referencing Dorothy, ruby slippers, tornadoes or flying monkeys.

Robert Parker, RIP

Author Robert Parker died on January 18, and my family has been mourning ever since: Parker’s books are a shared experience among us, especially the books starring his main protagonist, Spenser (no first name), a Boston private detective. We’ve all read many, many Spenser novels, as well as Parker’s Sunny Randall and Jesse Stone series (I’m not so hot on Jesse Stone, but my mom is a big fan because the enduringly gorgeous Tom Selleck plays him in the TV movies).

In a terrific session on new product launches from the Mid-America Manufacturing Technology Center’s 3rd Annual Manufacturing Executive Conference in Kansas City, several manufacturing leaders talked about the difficulty of differentiating between “features” and “benefits” in proposals, websites or brochures, a problem that we often help our clients with.
